Benin-onitsha road accident claims 20 lifes
About 20 lives were feared lost on Wednesday in a fatal road accident that occurred in Evbuobanosa village on the Benin-Onitsha expressway.
Majority of the passengers on board of a commercial bus heading to Benin from Onitsha reportedly died in the carnage.
Eyewitness said the accident involved a heavy truck with registration number FST 280 XR and a Toyota bus with registration MKD 492 XB.
The bus loaded with passengers had inscription of NNTCL 670 at its back.
As at the time of this report, the cause of the accident was still unknown.
A team of members of the Abudu unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who were alerted by villagers, were mobilized to the scene of the accident for rescue operation.
Edo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Samuel Odukoya, when contacted on the night of the accident confirmed the incident and disclosed that Abudu unit team of the command had been deployed to the area for rescue operation.
Odukoya stated that four of the victims involved in the carnage were taken to a nearby hospital where they eventually gave up the ghost.
He added that further details of actual number of persons involved in the road accident would be made known after personnel of the unit command must have evacuated all those involved in the incident.
